History
Forza Drift Allstars started back in 2012 with the running title of "DMA Formula Drift" which was used to help the team in charge of the current organization, DriftMachine (DMA), start a recruiting movement. Since then it has taken on a completely different facade. What started out as a Friday-night friendly get together became an intricate network of multiple series and Pro Licenses and live streaming.
DMA Formula Drift had six rounds of top 8 competition, and those competing were either DMA team drivers, players that had no team, or a select few invited guest from the friendly Team Zenki. Though the competition was fierce (the points race in 2012 being settled by only a few points) the friendships forged were wholesome, and almost all of the players that drove in that competition became and still are DriftMachine members (even the ones from Zenki). |
At the onset of 2012, there had been two really dominant forces among the field, which exchanged hands in battle often. One was team leader and now FDA Executive Administrator DMA BostonTroy (BostonTroy at the time) and his 900hp Chevy Camaro. The other was a guy who was just starting to find his competition legs in a BMW 1M, Hey Stack (APX Caramel or Volkswagen yo at the time).
However, as the season progressed, one of the guys that had been in charge of judging asked if he could drive a few events, and seen as though it was a low-key style event, it was allowed as long as they found a replacement. His name was DMA Chronn1k (TDA Chronn1k at the time) and he went on to win back-to-back events in his Scion Racing FR-S and pushed Hey Stack out of the championship and set his sights on Troy's lead. With only a point separating the two going into the final at Infineon, they did battle, with BostonTroy getting a decisive win in the Final 4. |
Although after the 2012 season, Troy expressed that he never wanted to run a competition again, he found himself slowly getting the burning itch to do it all over again. So, in 2013, the DriftMachine team held their second year of tandem competition, now called "DMA Allstars" and made it completely open to the public. In that season, 89 different drivers came in and scored points in tandem, as the driving level surpassed anything they had set up before.
While, due to some poor management and difficult personnel, the first round was rocky, the rest of the season heated up as a real championship battle brew between two of the best drivers in the game, the soft-spoken SCS Wanted and the unfiltered DB Drifter Dave. Before the season had started, Wanted was the favorite to win the championship, but things didn't quite work out that way. |
After Dave was able to beat Wanted at the round at the TopGear test track, Wanted's huge points lead was knocked slowly down until, prior to the finale at Infineon, Dave was able to surmount the championship lead. He would go on to hold off Wanted even after losing early in competition, culminating one of the best on and off track rivalries with a championship win for DB Drifter Dave.
Once again, after having to manage nearly one hundred drivers and very large events, BostonTroy told the world that he was done with events and declared he wanted no part in running such a large-scale series again. Just as it had the year before, though, the idea of how he could take the competition to a further level began to pester him until he and the DriftMachine team had a serious discussion over the possibilities before them. |
After being let down at the release of Forza Motorsport 5, DriftMachine and the others set to work creating a system of competition that was more realistic and similar to how competitive drifting works in reality, utilizing different levels of driving, team budgets, and regional series'. Now re-branded as "Forza Drift Allstars", the 2013-2014 season saw around 200 drivers register for all the different series' that FDA had to offer.
When the 2014 FDA season began, however, the toll that playing a single video game for nearly four years can ebb finally won over, and with numbers in the Professional Series and the Pro-Amateur series dwindling as more and more converted to next generation consoles and gaming, FDA was only able to run a half season. |
